Change (democrats not republicans), transparency (seeing only what we want you to see), Independence (becoming our slaves upon our whims)...just more bureaucratic BS...words are only words until we make the difference. The change that is needed is for people to stand up to a corrupt government and let them know that we are not to be tread upon, not to be led into socialism, and not to be triffled with when making decisions pertaining to our financial freedom. It's no longer the two parties for the people, it's the two parties against liberty, freedom, and justice for the people.

No, John. As an American, you most certainly would not understand. This is because Israel's own emergency service, "Magen David Adom" (known as 'M.D.A.' or 'Red Shield of David') spent more than three-quarters-of-a-century - 1930-2006 - trying to gain entry to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and succeeded only after intense pressure from the U.S. So, once again, Israel is indebted to the USa for its support.

It unnerves me somewhat that when people discuss the Reform Movement in Israel they always leave out a fundamental detail:
The reason the Reform Movement has no power or say in Israel is their own fault!
At their outset they declared an absolute disinterest in returning to Israel. The fact that decades later they would change their minds does not erase the past.
What in the world were they thinking?

I'm a Jewish vegetarian as well; have been for 25 years! Passover is certainly a challenging time of year - there go all my favorite favorite grain and pasta-based recipes! Still, we manage very well, even with two children and their picky habits.

I use a beet on the seder plate. It adds a nice touch of color and it tastes great later, when I roast it with with other root vegetables. My main course was a Armenian vegetable casserole, consisting of many types of veggies baked in the oven for a couple of hours, and served with a dollup of plain, natural yogurt on top. The aroma always draws everyone into the kitchen and the house smells great all evening.

Chag sameach!

As someone who purchases kosher food both vegetarian and meat on a year round basis for family and a large number of guests, I am well aware of the added costs we bear for making sure that the food has the kosher certification.

This has become significantly more important as foods have stabilizers, additives and the like which may be made from products which more than likely not kosher. Also there is an issue with vitamins and other supplements as well as the coatings and capsules for medications.

As the kosher consumer becomes more aware and more demanding for quality foods and a greater range of foods and wines year round we will pay a reasonable surcharge but feel put upon when some food manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers or retailers take advantage.

In New York this Passover Season there are both consumers and politicians watching for spikes in costs to these food items.

Help us keep costs down by keeping kosher year round.

Oy. I know what you mean! We are very lucky in our area to have enough kosher for Passover items in our local grocery to do well. May Elijah come to your door this year. Good Pesach to you all.
