Computer ‘Tech Guys’ are Strictly Non-PC!

Published by msniw at 7:57 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Last time I wrote, I boasted how I’d saved more than £400.00 on potential fuel use. Now I’m wondering if I’ve wasted £123.00 with UK electronics giant, PC World.

In April I bought an extension to my laptop’s coverplan and the blurb advised me that in event of a breakdown I would receive a fast and efficient repair.

Not on your life! I haven’t seen it for almost three weeks!

My five year old ‘Advent’ - which has seen a lot of life - suddenly blew one weekend afternoon after many a near-miss. When I contacted the repair-line I was told there would be a turn-around of five-10 working days.

It was picked up the following Tuesday and I’ve not seen it since.

So what have I paid for?

  • A badly performed, incomplete ‘health-check’ at the PC World, Bolton, Lancshire branch in April. (Although the trip to the electronic dolls’ hospital caused as many problems as it solved, I let the matter drop as I needed my machine for work.)

  • Expensive 0870 calls to the so-called “Tech Guys” hotline.

  • A refusal to give me even an estimated lead-time for its return.

  • Just a vague explanation that the team was awaiting a part for ‘the back’ from the factory.

  • A further, even vaguer explanation that it had left the factory and was at one of the workshops.

  • Yet another point-blank refusal to telephone the engineers on my behalf. They’re not allowed to use the phone, I was told, as it pulls them away from their work(!).

  • An agreement, instead, to email the team, and that I would be told the result.

That was on Friday (12 Dec) and it’s now after midnight on Mon. /Tues. 15 /  16 Dec and I’ve not heard anything.

I’ll let you know when I do!

Meanwhile,  yesterday I used a friend’s desktop computer as our other household laptop has no ‘A’ drive and I need one that does as I still have vital documents on floppy-disc.

Now all this, I’m sure all you desperate bloggers will agree, is very, very bad service. I’d love some ideas for what I should do next …

Personally I’d go for first degree murder but I understand the British courts are not hot on crimes passionelles.  But I’d love to know how anyone out there feels. If you’ve had a similar experience, please drop by alwaysperfectlywrite and let me know…
